The Fastest Way to a Happier Day

Chloe Leibowitz - happy day

The Fastest Way to a Happier Day

So I’m tempted to say the fastest way to do this is to decide to have a happy day. I mean it honestly doesn’t happen by accident all that often. Especially when you’re a busy, juggling mum with a million and one things to remember; on-going guilt for things you did or didn’t do; crazy multi-tasking etc etc. But I don’t underestimate the tough stuff we all have to deal with in our lives that can make ‘deciding to have a happy day’ seem rather unrealistic.

I’m a big believer, do-er and teacher of daily habits that increase our ability to have a happy day, any day. Yes, there will be times it goes tits-up and you just want to punch something, but equally, these small, regular habits build up a powerful resilience in your brain that allows you to literally tell yourself today is going to be good.

Here’s my top tips to get the flow of positivity going and to be constant and level in your moods:

On waking and before going to sleep write down what you are grateful for. This could be anything from your gorgeous children, to your loving husband, to your crazy friends, to the sun in the sky or the fresh air. Starting and ending the day with a full heart gives quite a different on spin to things and starts and ends the day with positivity.

Treat yourself well. If you allow yourself to be looked after by you, and not treated as an afterthought you are valuing you. You are showing the Universe and others around you, that you deserve to be treated well. That you need to come first sometimes in order to carry out your monumental greatness for everyone else every day! It can also raise your confidence, allowing you to branch out and achieve things you really want to do.

Having a positive vision of the future. How often do you think about how you want things to look in the future and actually take steps to make that a reality?

Having a positive vision of the future. How often do you think about how you want things to look in the future and actually take steps to make that a reality? Spend some time thinking about this one. Maybe day dream with your other half about your ideal future picture. Make a vision board. Write out your ideal day. Start attracting that future toward you – or even take some action in the right direction!

Be kind and be positive. If you are at all unkind or negative, it will sink in and you will not really have a happy day. Be mindful of thoughts and words spoken. Being kind and being positive will lift you to a happier place every time.

Smile. That’s it.

Help someone. Yes, doing a good deed is not only helpful to others, but it really is good for the soul.

Help someone. Yes, doing a good deed is not only helpful to others, but it really is good for the soul. Lend a helping hand whenever you can.

Put on a killer outfit. We all have those days when we slouch around in comfy clothes or active wear, and that’s just fine. But let me tell you, doing your hair, putting on some make-up and wearing your favourite outfit is a real mood booster – do it! The bonus here is that you will also most likely get a compliment or two – happy days!

See an old friend. We spend an awful lot of time doing things that are not really our favourite things to do. And seeing people that are not our favourites!! Who is your favourite? Who would you love to see and spend time with, even just for an hour, but never find the time? Call them, book it in, get happy!

Give a compliment. This, just like being kind, is food for the soul. I never miss the opportunity to give a compliment if I’m thinking it, whether I know the person or not – and the happiness it spreads will make you feel on top of the world.

Congratulate yourself on everything you do well every day instead of focusing on what’s not right.

Congratulate yourself on everything you do well every day instead of focusing on what’s not right. Ring any bells? We are so self-critical! So I challenge you to spend a day noticing all the things you do well. From your exercise, to a fantastic work project, to a great cup of tea, to an expertly handled after school pick up and drop off schedule and tea time that would leave most squawking like a headless chicken – score for you!!

I hope you enjoy this list of tips for a Happier Day. Let me know what works for you when it comes to having happy days.

Chloe xx
